Mark Stewart's name is synonymous with speed of foot. Mark graduated from Suffield High in 1981. His athletic legacy was built on speed. Using his special gift, Mark excelled in soccer, basketball, baseball, and track. Except for Little League and Senior League baseball, Mark had not participated in organized sports before high school. Mark quickly expanded his sports experiences in high school where he played soccer, basketball, baseball, and ran track. He played soccer in the fall and was a three year starter for the varsity. His speed on the field quickly made him a feared opponent and he led the Wildcats to three consecutive state championship games. Mark's sophomore team won the Class M Title. Stewart led the team in scoring his junior year and was named to the all area first team and the NCCC all conference team. As a senior, he scored almost every key goal in the state tournament in leading the team's run-up to the finals. In the winter

Mark played varsity basketball for three years, starting in his junior and senior years. Here again, his speed and quickness made him the best defender against the opponent's top player and a key offensive cog in Suffield's scoring.

Mark played baseball for a year and a half in the spring. At which point his coach, Paul Thomas in a magnificent display of seeking the best for Mark and Suffield High, suggested Mark switch to track because of his incredible speed. Doing so, Stewart became the track team's number one performer in the 100 and 200 meters, and the 110 hurdles , and the anchor for the 4 X 100 relay team. Led by Mark the team won the NCCC championship meet. He did the same as a junior and was a state champion in the 200. As a senior, Mark re-wrote the record books. He was the conference champion in the 100, 200, and 4 X 100 relay, AND he also was the state champion in all three events. He set school records in all three events. These records still have not been broken. Mark Stewart truly is the fastest man in Suffield athletic history!
