The 2000 Suffield High Girls Indoor Track Team won the Class S State Championship. This team had nine seniors, five sophomores, and two freshmen. The team was co-captained by Jane Christian and Hilary Evans. In addition, the rest of the seniors, Nicole Augusto, Crystal Tholany, Kim Thompson, Gina Vezzola, Michaela Seccareccia, Alicia Sweda, and Kathy Winiarski all were major contributors to this team's success. The underclassmen included sophomores, Kim Miner, Eileen O'Connor, Katie Parise, Christie Vezzola, Melanie Schorr, and freshmen Kristina Miner and Elissa Wood.

This team had a very successful fall track season, and coaches Joe Sinicrope and Rich Tyo were extremely optimistic about the upcoming indoor season. The girls were more than ready for the indoor season to begin. In early January the team competed in the Rhode Island Indoor Classic. Kristina Miner set school records for the 1,000 and 3,000 meter races. Schorr set a school record in the 1,500. Christian placed in the 55 meter sprint and, with the Vezzola sisters and Seccareccia, placed fourth in the 4 X 200 relay. The team was on its way. The girls won the NCCC Championship in a very exciting meet that came down to the final event. Jane Christian, an All State sprinter, came from behind on the final leg of the 4 X 200 relay to ensure victory. Suffield won the 4 X 800 relay with Christian, Tholany, Kristina Miner, and Evans and set a record doing so. In this championship, Gina Vezzola won the long jump and Kristina won the 3,200. Overall, Suffield won several events and Schorr won two of them; the 800 and 1000 meters.

The state finals were a celebration of excellence that this team had been building to since January. Suffield scored a team total of 51 points, 38 of them coming in the longer races. Kristina Miner and Schorr were incredible in these events. Jane Christian took a third in the 55 as did Gina Vezzola in the long jump.  This group personified the true meaning of TEAM!
