Travis Tucker grew up in Suffield and started playing minor hockey at the age of 5 with the Suffield Flyers organization. In 1985, Travis entered Suffield High School and played three seasons for the Wildcats. As a sophomore and as a junior, Travis was
recognized as Division 1 All-State for his strong defensive play, aggressive style and smooth skating. During his junior season, Travis caught the attention of prep schools and Division 1 colleges. Having success at Suffield High School, Travis decided to take
his talents to prep powerhouse Avon Old Farms where he was a member of the 1989 New England Prep Championship team as well as a high school hockey All-American playing in the prestigious CCM All-American showcase at Boston University.

While at Avon Old Farms, Travis was recruited by many Division 1 programs and chose to play in Hockey East for the UMass Lowell Chiefs. Also, following his graduation from Avon Old Farms, Travis was drafted in the 1990 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings. After a solid four-year college career, Travis went on to play professionally for the next 6 seasons, including exhibition games with the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and their minor league affiliates. Highlights of his professional career include being voted team captain and winning back-to-back championships in 1997 and 1998 for the Quad City Mallards, an affiliate of the Washington Capitals. In 1999, Travis retired from professional hockey.
